Social Media and Globalization

What has the social media change/affect you?

Social media really helps me a lot in finding the news that ease me in knowing what is currently happening out there. All of the information I get is simply from my smartphone which has tons of applications that contain news, video, readings and many more. Even now we can share our opinions towards a current issue in twitter. In addition, the things that circle around in social media are now being the issues broadcasted in Television. So the order goes from social media to mass media. The second benefit I could get from social media is that it allows me to engage more into the world, I could say. From the example I gave above that twitter allows people to say what is on their mind which is their opinions that somehow it could affect others’ opinions too.

Social media does not only benefit people but also has some consequences too. Anyone can post news that easily accessed by people which means the credibility of the sources is what usually people miss. They think that anything on the social media is right because it is the fastest way to deliver to the people. Then, a lot of people might fall for wrong issues or hoax. Another consequence that people might not notice is that people are losing their ability to think independently about their opinions. Since people are able to access social media easily and others too, opinions can be mixed therefore caused the tendency to follow others’ opinions rather than standing on your own opinions.
