Persuasive Speech Outline

Topic: Bullying

General goal: I want to persuade the audience.

Specific goal: I want to persuade the audience to avoid from involving in bullying.

Thesis statement: I want to persuade the audience to avoid from involving in bullying by informing them about definition and types of bullying and the negative consequences of bullying.

Introduction

Attention getter: Have you ever heard of the name Amanda Todd? Amanda Todd was a young girl who commit suicide because she was blackmailed, bullied and, mentally and physically assaulted. Prior to her death, Amanda had posted a video on YouTube in which she used a series of flash cards to tell her horrible experience and the video went viral after her death, resulting in international media attention.

Listener relevance: Bullying has been an exceeding issue over the year. Bulling affects everyone not just the victims of bulling but, the bully’s and everyone surrounding them. The numbers of kids that are starting to become victims as well as bullies are increasing. Nobody likes a bully and being one just makes matters worse. Bullying is a major problem that we must put an end to.

Speaker credibility: I became interested to choose this topic as my persuasive speech topic, as we could see how bullying can cause very grave consequences towards the victim, the bully and other people. I have done a lot of research about this topic.

Thesis statement: I want to persuade the audience to avoid from involving in bullying by informing them about definition and types of bullying and the negative consequences of bullying.

Body

A.Definition of bullying

Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively dominate others.

B.Types of bullying

  1. Physical bullying: includes hitting, kicking, tripping, pinching and pushing or damaging property.
  2. Verbal bullying: includes name calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, homophobic or racist remarks, or verbal abuse.
  3. Covert or hidden bullying: including lying and spreading rumours, negative facial or physical gestures, menacing or contemptuous looks, playing nasty jokes to embarrass and humiliate, mimicking unkindly, encouraging others to socially exclude someone and damaging someone's social reputation or social acceptance.
  4. Cyber bullying: using digital technologies, including hardware such as computers and smartphones and software such as social media, instant messaging, texts and websites.

C.Negative consequences of bullying

1. The bully

  • Have criminal convictions and traffic citations as adults 
  • Be abusive toward their romantic partners, spouses, or children as adults
  • Mental problems or worse psychosis

2.The victim

  • Depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy.
  • Poor health condition
  • Prone to suicide or mental problems

3.Bystanders

  • Feels encourage to do the same
  • Lives in fear of becoming the next possible victim

Conclusion

It’s time to stop pretending like bullying is a small matter and ignores them. All living person in this world must work together in order to ensure that bullying is stopped and prevented before bullying cause very bad things to happen. As Muslims, we have to inculcate our future children the correct Islamic teachings, practice a healthy lifestyle and must tell our children that harming other people is against Allah’s rule. In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah (SWA) has said: ‘I shall take revenge on the oppressor in this life and the next. I shall take revenge on someone who saw a person being oppressed and was able to help him but did not help him.’ (Tabraani).
