How is Social Media used to promote a brand?

Social media is defined as a form of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content such as videos, pictures, and website links. Today there are well over 200 different social media sites on the internet, the top five are: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and MySpace.

Why use social media to promote a brand? Resent research shows that social networking website takes up over 40 percent of internet activity. Social media is by far the cheapest and efficient way of promoting a brand to the public. Many of the social networking websites have global reach, and having global reach is an excellent bump up for competition. Amazon is a prime example of this someone from a different country can purchase a book even if it’s only available in U.S. stores. Social Media allows you to join groups of people with same interest and goals. Within these “groups” that you can join, you can target customers by promoting your product on that particular group’s page. You can offer deals and promotions to the exact target market you are reaching, which will pay off in increased sales. Mobile devices such as cell phones, IPods, I pads, and Tablets have allowed people to access social media via apps. This allows people to login to these social networking sites from basically anywhere whether it is in the car or even at the park. This recent advancement in technology has changed the way people consume goods.

Social media sites allow you to create your own niche market in your brand by creating your own group on these websites. You can share information and knowledge to people who join your group, and these people can become loyal followers, friends and connections. Those people, who join you group and read about your product, can easily share the information to their friends and family
