A biography is an account of one person's life from birth to present. Biographies inform the reader of many things, but it does not look deeper into who that person really is. Who someone is inside and how they behave towards others is dependent upon the values, morals, and actions of other people in their life and important events and institutions. This is my biography and I will discuss the major events and people in my life and how they relate to my socialization.

At home, my most important agency of socialization was family. My "significant others" at home would have to be my mother, my father, my sister, and my Nana. I live with both of my parents and my sister, Paige. Both of my parents have full time jobs, so they hired a babysitter to care for my sister and I; we called her Nana. She became like a surrogate grandmother to us and played a big part in raising us and influencing our socialization. My sister was born when I was three, so I don't have any memories where it wasn't my responsibility to be a role model. My mother has always played the role of disciplinarian. She is very hard on us. Most times I resent her for it, but it did help build my drive to do well. There are still things she forced us to do that I think were overkill, but most of the time she did a good job. My father has always been the voice of reason in our home. My mom and I don't get along and when our fights get too loud, my dad usually steps in to cool everybody down. He taught my sister and I to stay calm in the face of anger and show everyone kindness. My dad also values the formation of one's own opinions. He is constantly asking us how we feel about things and challenging our ideas. We don't see Nana everyday anymore, but she was a big influence on my socialization. She taught me how to be a good person and to treat people how they would like to be treated. She taught me tolerance and to love everyone, even if they don't deserve it.
