Clarifying ‘What am I dealing with’

A. Unfavorable feedback to senior research consultant

1. Circumstances on which I was acting:

• I need to tell one senior consultant of my department that his research plan didn’t get approved during review meeting.

• Meanwhile, his research project wouldn’t get sponsorship and other financial assistance from research fund managed by my department.

• My responsibility:

 Finalizing all related research topics or subjects on an annual basis

 Evaluating all applications from universities and institutes and

 Signing contracts with research institutions and allocating money to principal professors.

2. In terms of circumstances in which I was acting:

• He is a senior, famous and leading professor in one top-level university in China.

• He has built up a long-term good relationship along with the foundation of my department.

• He has become the first batch of receiving invitation to do specialized research from Chinese government.

• He has got reputation and won lots of achievements in research in civil service recruitment system.

• He has introduced lots of research partners and his doctoral students to join the consulting team of my department.

• He has just taken an eye surgery last month (which I believe this is major reason why he was not well prepared for his research plan.)
