Marketing Department is a department to help a firm or company to meet the marketing process, an exchange process, which means the firm offer their products and services to the customers and then the customers give the payment to the firm. It is also a bridge to help the firm or company to identify and anticipate what the market (customer) needs and wants, one of the main departments which help profit-making.

A Marketing Department would not just identify what customer needs, because it is not enough. Some of the customers may not know what they want, for instance, movies and technology products. So the Marketing Department will anticipate what customers want, put out some new product regularly and also to keep the sale of the old product, try to predict the generally trend of the future.

To identify and anticipate what the customer needs and wants now and the following future, the Marketing Department will do a lot of market research (primary and secondary research). To keep a connection with the customers, to know more about what they are thinking of, to help for the improvement of the product and the service which match the customers taste and help the firm to keep ahead of the competition between other competitors.

Marketing department is not just for these, it also involves finding out what kinds of the design, packaging, pricing, distribution, advertising, promotion, and after-sales service which match different kinds of customers needs and wants, and then satisfy their wants, thus to make them impulse buy the product over and over again. What ever any business, if they do not pay attention on their products and services to their customers, they would not be able to stand on the market for so long.

For improving a firm or company, they must set out some objectives for the business, some business aim, whatever it is for short-term or long-term, for instance, increase the profit by 10% in this end of the year or expand the market to a new place, these all are some very useful objectives. To meet the objective successfully, marketing department is a department which cannot be lack in a company or a firm, because it is strongly linked to the customer. This department know clearly what are the customer wants and needs, without the help of this department, without the information of the market, it is impossible to achieve the objectives.

For example, the next season the company wants to put out a new product on the market and have a good selling result, how could the Marketing Department help? The Marketing Department will do a detailed market research; to check is there any similar products on the market now, if yes how to make our product better than the others and how to make the customers impulses buy. The Marketing Department will also make a perfect plan to promote the new product, try to let all customers know this new product.
