A Learned Lesson

Don’t ever put off something that you want to do just because of a distance. One day, in the year 2004, I was at the kart track I raced at weekly when we didn’t have a Manufacture Cup or National race. The night is just starting, the air was cooling down and my class was pulling off the track from just having completed a qualifying session. I pull off into the scale area to weigh my kart. It was my turn to pull up to the scale, and this was just the start. The scale girl was the same age, same height, brown hair, thin figure, blue eyes, and a cute smile. The night concluded, and I had no contact with this girl, who I later found out her name to be Kristin. The Saturday night races kept continuing and eventually conversations with her got deeper. At the end of the season the awards banquet came around, and there happened to be a dance floor. You guys are probably thinking, “how cheesy,” but remember I was 12. So we made use of the dance floor and danced like typical junior high kids dance: arms fully extended, and hands five inches above her waste. The racing season concluded, and winter came along with only contact being over the phone. This goes on for several seasons and we grow apart as the traveling increased. Eventually my karting career came to an end due to an economical downfall and prices in the sport increasing drastically. Our contact with each other eventually fell and we rarely got to hang out. Six quick years passed and we started talking to each other again, catching up on the past. We kept trying to plan a lunch or dinner date but they always seemed to fall through, mainly due to time management and the thirty-minute drive. Another year passed and it was Fourth of July weekend. I was on vacation at the lake house, got a text from Kristin, and conversation went on. We planned to get lunch when I was back in town, and yet again, It was put it off.
