Teacher Interview

The teacher I had the pleasure of interviewing was my all time favorite math teacher Mr.Winland. He taught my 10th grade geometry class. Mr.Winland works at Valparaiso High School, but that is not the only school he has taught, he was also employed at Portage High School. Mr. Winland is a math teacher and a great one at that.

Our interview started when I walked into his classroom one morning. It was the first time I had saw Mr. Winland since summer break where I saw him at the fair and rode a ride with his daughter. He seemed happy to see me which of course made me happy to know I wasn’t annoying him. I started off by telling him about the project I was doing for my vocational. When I told him I wanted to be a teacher he seemed both surprised and pleased. We then caught up a bit since I last saw him and I told him how much I missed his class and how much fun it was. When we finally started questions they went from one worded responses to entire conversations. I started by asking him about his education. He attended Purdue, which is where I would love to go. Some teacher rush through the material at hand, but he never did, which of course I loved since it takes me a while to understand math. The next question was obvious, what was your major in college. Mr. Winland majored in mathematics. The last question about his education was hoe did it prepare you for the work you are doing now. He told me about how he got to actually work in the classrooms and really see what it was like. Hearing this made me think how truly rewarding this vocational class is.

The next set of questions was about his teaching position. I asked him about what a typical day at his job was like. He told me how it consists of him helping students with their work. The next was what was the range of his duties and responsibilities. He laughed at this one then went on to tell me a whole list of them. He is a police officer, hall
