Diversity Case

This assignment is part one of the two Wall Street Journal assignments due in my Diversity class. For this assignment I picked an article on the Wall Street Journal website that pertained to managing diversity. Throughout this assignment I will identify any diversity and leadership issues in the article based on the material covered in the course and Understanding Business Ethics textbook. The article I chose to use is titled “How to Increase Workplace Diversity”, which has to do with what we discussed in our class discussion in module 5.

This article basically involves the rips and how- to’s involved when an organization is trying to increase workplace diversity. It talks about the benefits and the different approaches a company can take to be successful. There are many bottom line benefits that follow for a company that promotes workplace diversity ("How to Increase Workplace Diversity - Management - WSJ.com," 2014). However a company must take a holistic approach when going through the hiring process, as keeping employees can prove to be harder than is recruitment. In a less diverse region where relocated minority employees may feel disconnected, this can become more of a truth. An organization can increase their role and become more active in order to help employees adjust to the culture at work as well as in their new communities. This article has a lot of similar information that we talked about in module 5 of this course. Our book has talked about how important managing and increasing workplace diversity is and has continued to become. It will continue to become more important for organizations to deal with in the future, due to the growing differences in the U.S. population.
