Each and every business organization must strive to accomplish a unique set of goals that influence their overall culture. Success cannot be measure by the company’s profit margin alone. Today businesses have to account for their success by obtaining organizational achievements, successful community involvement and personal growth and development of management and employees. Businesses that prioritize training in legal requirements, diversity and employee growth manage to avoid lawsuits and are also sought out as a prime employer.

Legal Requirement Training

It is important for companies to realize that the provision of legally required training is not a burden but contributes to an intelligent and well-trained workforce. This is an essential component to having a high level of productivity and performance as well as fostering employee morale and well-being. There are a few areas that require an employer to provide employee training. These areas include sexual harassment, discrimination and safety.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that employers will be held liable for sexual harassment if they do not provide reasonable measures to prevent or correct this type of behavior in the workplace. Training is to be held annually for all employees and it should inform employees of what sexual harassment consists of, what legal liability standards apply and teach them how to report any abuse immediately. Employers are responsible for investing and correcting any and all accusations when it is brought to their attention.

Other forms of discrimination should be addressed as well. Laws are in place to make it illegal for employers to discriminate against an employee or potential employee based on their age, disability, origin, race, religion or gender. Management must be trained to identify these protected classes and learn how to identify specific scenarios that could possibly violate these federal and state laws or company policies. It is the sole purpose to establish and maintain an environment that is not hostile towards any protected group of people.

Safety enforcement and training is a very important part of every employee’s job. Federal laws and regulations are in place to protect workers from on-the-job injuries and unsafe exposure to hazardous work environments. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires that safety training become an essential part of the program in order to prevent workers from injuries and illnesses. Not only should this training be conducted based on law but it helps the employers to save money. Employers pay large sums of money when an employee is injured on workers compensation fees, lost time, sick pay and additional insurance costs.

Diversity Training

Workplace diversity refers to the differences between employees and to the acceptance of these differences on the job.
