Executive Summary

This short management is focused on the personal reflection of innovation related concepts learnt during the course.

My six original ideas include invention, creation, change, being different and continuously different, new trend and leadership. During the course of study, I started to have new and more comprehensive perceptions towards them.

I find the 5P’s concept extremely important in the context of innovation where the people element plays the fundamental role in developing and implementing the product, process, paradigm and position elements around which a firm could build its core competence. It is also important for me to find out that invention is not the same with innovation, innovation is the commercialisation of invention.

Some concepts are relatively easy for me to understand. One of them is people because it is part of the 5P’s which has already been looked at and then more discussion is conducted in class. I also learnt that my original thought of leadership is part of the people element. It is easy for me to understand the first mover advantage because I studied it in my undergraduate marketing class where we also talked about the first mover disadvantage. I also learnt about incremental and radical innovation in the same undergraduate course which made those concepts easy for me to understand again.

Finally, I came across some difficult to understand concepts including what really is innovation, innovation as a system and the TRIZ. I took similar step to overcome the difficulties such as reading through the lecture notes and related readings to help myself understand it better, try to find concrete examples which illustrate the points well and do extra research on these topics.

After the course, I will take the following two steps to enhance my understanding
