Innovation Case

Innovation is a hot topic in the research of entrepreneurship, business and even the whole national economics because of its widespread effect. In society, innovation aims to provide a comfortable, convenient and efficient daily life to people. In economical context, innovation is the stimulant to the growth. In corporate environment, innovation can possibly bring about positive changes to efficiency, productivity, competitiveness and other aspects. Theoretically, innovation is indeed crucial to corporate success and economic growth. However, in practice, how to make innovative ideas to commercial application is an intricate way to achieve. According to ‘The Innovation Blueprint’ by C. Brooke Dobni, successful innovation encompasses four necessary elements: innovation intent, innovation infrastructure, innovation influence and innovation implementation (Figure 1). This report will describe mutual connections and supplementation among those four elements and be focused on how to apply each element to encourage innovation within SBS and overcome relevant potential barriers in the process of innovation. The innovation blueprint is formed from the environment and behaviors which are essential to sustaining innovation in an organization. Four elements embodied in the innovation blueprint can be categorized into two groups: management centric and employee centric. Management centric is concentrated on innovation environment that regard ‘intention and infrastructure must be created by management to support innovation’ , while employee centric emphasizes on behaviors which ‘identify the temperaments and characteristics necessary to drive the market orientation of employees and the implementation of innovation’ . From now on, through analysis of four elements connect with SBS (ab. For Sydney Business School), it will give a portrait of how to encourage innovation occurring in SBS.
