Structuring Virtual Teams

INTRODUCTION

Many companies use the teaming concept when addressing corporate issues and applying it to normal business. Building a high performing team involves putting together skill sets and practices necessary to manage teams properly. The SLP project is to set up our virtual team as assigned and communicate in order to organize the team through the Threaded Discussion link as well as learn other avenues of communication that might be better suited for the team.

Organization Process

The team decided to stick with our given name Team . The process used to coordinate the team was based on the Threaded Discussion link, personal emails, and the Writeboard.com link. The preferred leadership style is the rotating leadership structure. This was used to include every member and letting each provide their expertise to the project.

The modular work design method was preferred for our group. The team members discussed the project goals and each understood their responsibilities. The team will then coordinate and each will submit the coordinated response. This is advantageous to our virtual team because of the cooperation between team members and it includes the democratic decision making process.

Practices of effective virtual teams include establishing and maintaining trust through the use of communication technology. We started using the Writeboard.com link in an effort to allow all members to post their opinions for the team to review and then we would be able to coordinate a final response.

Obstacles to Organizing the Virtual Team

One of the obstacles to organizing the team is getting everyone on the same page. Everyone in the team has other responsibilities including work, family, extra-curricular activities and of course school. The reason most of us are taking classes through Trident University is because of the flexibility to learning when it is most convenient in our busy lives.
