Abstract

This article is very interesting because it talks about success factors of global virtual teams, how to tackle problems and improve team performance.    I found this article very helpful because we work in virtual teams for our studies, and for most of us this is our first time in such an environment.

There are 3 categories, in this article that measure success or failure of virtual teams and they are as follows:

  1. Team formation

This is the most important in accomplishing goals and objectives.  There must be a team leader where team members can go to in case of problems. Expectations must be stated, such as agreed goals and objections.  Also the level of communicating with team members should be agreed.  Here all team members should take the time to get to know each other on a personal bases as it helps members’ sense unity and can become aware of any multicultural influences.

  1. Trust and collaboration

Trust can be gained by being consistent, encouraging collaboration and acknowledging achievements.  The more you work in a team environment, share information and get to know each other informally, trust could be developed through time.

  1. Team communication

The success of the team all relies on communicating with your team members.  Share information and concentrate on the important issues.  It is fundamental to clarify who completes each task and that everyone in the team understands the information that is being communicated.

The above steps ensure a successful virtual team environment.
