EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Mum’s the Word Custom Homecoming Mums is a startup business that will provide custom mums for Homecoming and any other event to school age and college students.  Our mums will be made from quality materials and to the customer’s specifications.  All mums are individually hand-made which only adds to the uniqueness of each.  I have been making custom mums for four years hand have had many satisfied customers.  Mum’s the Word will be located at 2222 Interstate 35 Frontage road in San Antonio, Texas and will open on August 15, 2016, but will begin taking online orders on August 1, 2016.

My goal is to provide students with a mum that they will want to show off to their friends and family.  The customer will also to preserve the mum to save as a keepsake.

Mums created for Homecoming events in junior high and high school is a very popular tradition in the South.  In most recent years, they have become bigger and more extravagant.  It is even starting to develop into a tradition for young men to wear a much smaller version of the mum on their upper arm called a garter.  Customarily, the young man gives his Homecoming date the mum and she gives him a garter.  This custom is not followed as much as it had been in the past because everyone wants to have a mum whether they have a Homecoming date or not.  More young ladies are purchasing their own mums today. They can make them as personalized and as intricate as they wish.
