There are several reasons why my previous educational experience does not match my program of interest at Capitol College which will be discussed below.  Initially, when I re-entered college in 2009 I had two main goals; to complete my higher education and get back into the workforce but this time enter a career where I could grow, advance and retire.  Once I returned to college, I was simply trying to complete a bachelor degree based on credits I accumulated at other institutions which consisted of over 36 business credits so I could better position myself for full-time employment.  I changed from business to religious studies because I found out I only had to take 27 credits in religion to get my bachelors.

I thought having a bachelor degree would open employment opportunities for me in today’s tight employment market.  Little did I know I would not qualify for job opportunities available after my graduation in May, 2012.  Apparently, no one in business was looking for a religious study major within their organization, even though I had over twenty-five years of business work experience that supplemented my recent education.

After trying to gain full-time employment within my final semester of undergraduate studies with no success, I choice to remain in school and get a master degree hoping an advanced degree would surely impress employers.  I completed my master degree in Law & Governance with a concentration in Governance, Compliance and Regulations this past May.  While completing my master degree, I discovered I had a hidden interest in politics, governance and law which emerge after Arbitration and Research Methods.  My business interest resurfaced during Private Sector Compliance w/Public Regulations (PSCPR).

During the spring 2013 semester, I became consumed with SOX regulations and made it the subject of interest for two research papers, PSCPR and Research Methods & Analysis. I went so far as to study the auditing standards of PWC, COSO Internal Controls – Integrated Framework and PWC’s updates on COSO.  We read Steinberg’s “Risk Management and Compliance” and Biegelman and Bartow’s "Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control" as course text.  These books pulled together the knowledge I received during my preparation course, Business Law II, which I elected to take the summer of 2012 in preparation of starting my graduate courses in law and governance since I was coming into the program as a beginner.
