                                     My sex Education Experience

Sexual education had always been a sensitive topic in our society. Even though everyone knows it’s a must-take educational step in growing path from teenager to a grown-up, our education system doesn’t have a clear guidance or syllabus for sex education. Ideally sex education should be similar to subject like mathematics and chemistry, students with different age and grades receive different sex education they could understand and deserve along their growth. For example, primary school students should be taught about conceptual ideas about sex including answers to questions like where they came from. In primary school, teachers could teach little boys and girls what to do if emergency situation happens. With students growing up and becoming more mature and open mind, boys and girls in adolescence should be taught ways to perform sex appropriately and methods to prevent sexual disease and birth controls.

I remember when I was 13, my parents told me about that how did they born me. And my father also told me about the meaningful side and harmful side about sex in order to let me know this knowledge and protect myself earlier in my life. I always feel grateful to my parents that they didn’t choose to not talk about it with me even it may be embarrassing.  One of the most important lesson I learned from my parents about sex was to respect the partners. One needs to be respected and also should respect the other.

However, it’s obvious that education system in our society performed sex education in different ways. I still remember when I was 8th grade in a biology class at middle school, our biology teacher asked boys to leave and kept all girls in class. She played PowerPoint slides about sexual apparatuses with low quality pictures. Everyone including herself were embarrassed because sex was never being a topic being talked about in the class. As what I could remember today, what she talked about was very basic and more about biology side of sex like the function of human being’s sexual apparatuses. Also, some basic knowledge like it only takes one sperm to fertilize an egg. I could barely remember anything she talked about sexual opinions or appropriate attitude toward sex. That is actually the only time I have serious sexual education in class. Even though I don’t think I learned anything new in that class, it leaves huge impression in my mind with how embarrassed everyone was in that class.

After that specific sex education class, we were also taught in school about the harm one could get for having sex including pregnancy and sexual disease like HIV. If a boy and girl were found staying together at night, both of them will be warned and being suspended from school for second time. All of these give me impression of mysterious and evil side of sex.

After coming to college, my friends around me including myself started to have sex with our significant others. We sometimes exchanged our sex opinions about the appropriate sex attitude in our minds. We learned from each other and realized that sex is not the monster in school teachers and parents’ talking but actually an enjoyable thing that everyone needs to live with. I was also surprised by how liberal some girls in college were that they could easily have sex with a guy that just met for two hours. Even though I was never the type of person believing virginity have to be kept until the marriage night, I was still shocked to gossips I heard about the speed people changed boyfriends.
