The ageless debate about when children and adolescents should be taught about sex education and whether or not they should taught it at all has been going on for decades. Some feel children as young as elementary school age should be taught sex education, while others contest that they shouldn’t be taught until they at least reach high school. In this situation, there are a vast number of opinions that every person is entitled to having. The book It’s Perfectly Normal by Robie H. Harris is a very controversial piece of literature, and one that has received enormous scrutiny and objection. One of the main reasons that the book is immensely opposed is because it was written for children, not teenagers or adults. In fact, there are numerous cartoon drawings and figures that you would only see in a type of children’s book. The main question that arises when discussing the use and teaching of this book is whether or not it should be introduced to children of a young age, and if not children on a young age that what age limit? I strongly believe that this book should not be introduced to children at the elementary level nor should children read it in their early middle school years and should be banned.
