Report and Environment

Abstract[pic 20]

This paper referred to Journal of the City Planning Institute of Japan of five years including 1986,1992,1998,2004 and 2011.The writer explores that how the subject of city planning studies changed and the reason why it changes in these five years from the view of Transportation and Environment. Then made a further predict in the further study.  

1. Introduction

This paper refer to the title of Journal of the City Planning Institute of Japan from past to now. With the method of the documentary analysis, explores that all these years, how the subject of city planning studies changed and the reason why it changes. And then made a further discussion to develop what will researchers start to study in the next few years.

1. Discussion

This paper will explores how the subject of city planning studies changed and the reason why it changes from two points of view: Transportation and environment.

Japan was in a period of “bubble economy” in 1980s .

In the aspect of transportation, researchers started to studied the urban highway project and new subway services since the highway project and the new subway services had not been popularized. From the titles we can see the researchers made surveys to explore what the feelings of citizens have and in order made it better in transportations area of city planning .

In the aspect of environment, there are not much studies in environment protection but a paper referred to the land control model for conservation of natural environment in Lake Biwa Basin but this is not a detailed plan in city planning.

In 1992 , Japan was still in the period of “bubble economy”, but citizens were still very optimistic about the economy.

In the aspect of transportation, it appears a lot of studies about road’s network, traffic and the urban transportation. Regardless of the “bubble economy”, people still in hold the optimistic attitude to the economy since they have the freedom to dominated redundant wealth and spent more time in spiritual life, the transportation industry had been well developed. So studied transportation project can benefit a lot in city planning in that time.

In the aspect of environment, it is surprising that there is no essays about environment protection. But in the development of economy, economy always the first, and in the first place of economic development if the government pay too much attention to the environment protection, they cannot ensure the development of economy rapidly.

In the year of 1998, a new kind of study arisen. A lot of researchers began to studied the optimum allocation in finance and building construction in order to find a best solution of city planning. It seems as time pass by, the resource is not quite enough for people now so we should find better solutions to make full use of what we have. In addition, because of the disaster of earthquake, there are also some paper about city recovering planning.
