Effective communication players a big role in health and social care, it makes sure the message have been carried across to avoid barriers and misunderstanding. They are different types of communicating these are one to one communication, informal communication, group communication, multi agency, formal communication and communication with professional’s e.tc

One to one communication

One to one communication plays a big part in each individuals life is helps to understand each other more effectively and promotes good eye contact. It also builds a relationship and trust.

Informal communication

Individuals use this type of communication with the people they know for example friends and family, individuals may use terms and speak in a language that other people cannot understand. The local groups may also have their own way of speaking, therefore Individuals from other social groups might not understand them, forming a communication barrier.

Formal communication

Formal communication is often used in health and social care work for example when someone visits Happy valley special school when they go to the reception the receptionist might say “Good morning sir/ madam” can I help you. This type of communicating shows respect and most people understands it.

Communication between colleagues

Care workers in a health and social care setting must communicate with respect towards each other. This also show that they will speak with service user with respect. They need to have good listening skills in order to remember important information passed from colleagues. For example at someone missed the monthly team meeting in order to get information from a colleague they must be able to listen effectively.

Communication between professional people and people using services

Usually professionals like doctors, nurses have their own specialised language however they try their best to simplify it to greater extend in order for individuals to understand what they mean, say and what they should do. They can ensure that effective communication has been implicated by using simple grammar that everyone understands and avoiding slang and jargon. It helps overcome barriers in communication such as language, culture and disability. It creates the ability to provide best service to individuals no matter what circumstances.

Asking clients if they have understood to avoid communication barriers therefore, what has been discussed will be achieved. Body language is important it promotes effective communication to a greater extend in health and social care, it helps health and social care workers
