Observing the Norm

Inappropriate clothing, loud burping at the dinner table and people talking a different language are just some norms that we are faced with almost on a day to day basis. I know I observe these on a day to day basis because I work with the public and you would just be amazed of all the different things you see. There are some people or children out there who just want to be different or they want attention so they will violate a norm just to get looks or feel like the attention is on them. After my observations in one day, I was amazed at how many different ones you can see in just one day.

While at work, we greet everyone that steps through our door. I was going about my work duties I looked over to see a teenage girl walking in, and saw a norm violated and I just stared at her. She was wearing all black, hair dyed black, black makeup with fake teardrops drawn on her cheeks. Everyone that was in the store at this time just looked at her and was wondering the same thing that I was. I didn't know if she just wanted the attention, but every time that she would catch someone looking at her, she would give them the nastiest look ever. This look told me that she didn't want anyone looking at her, but why in the world would she dress like this if she didn't want anyone to look at her?

Just shortly after seeing the girl in black, in walks another violating norm. Thinking in my head that I picked the perfect day to do my observations! In walks a couple with their four children. As soon as the children enter into our doors, it's like a zoo in our store. They run around knocking everything off the shelves, yelling, and chasing each other around. You would think that everyone would be staring at the kids, but that was not the case in this instance. Instead of staring at the children, people are staring at the parents. The parents are making the racket, but they should be the ones stopping it. I bring it on myself to tell them to stop because
