Casey Anthony Case

As we all know, the case of Casey Anthony is one of the most highly debated cases since the OJ Simpson case. In fact, these two cases are actually quite similar. We all know they did it but the defense could not prove it. Along with them having very intelligent teams, they persuaded the jury that they could not prove them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. How is it that everyone knows Casey Anthony murdered her daughter but walks away without consequences; the prosecutors did not fulfill their duties.

On July 15, 2008 Caylee, Casey’s daughter was reported missing. Her maternal grandmother Cindy reported her missing after not seeing her for thirty-one days. When she questioned Casey about the whereabouts of her daughter, Casey gave indiscriminant annotations in regards to where she was until about two weeks later when she finally said she had not seen her daughter in weeks. She then lied to police making false accusations about a made up nanny that she reported kidnapped her. Discomforted by reporting her daughter missing to the authorities, she explained that she had been searching for Caylee.

With Caylee still missing in October, Casey was charged with first-degree murder, which she pled not guilty. Her defense team was made up of six different attorneys, Jose Baez being the leader. What her defense said was that Caylee had accidentally drowned on June 16, 2008 in their pool. When questioned about why Casey did not report this, the defense said that Casey lied because of supposed problems in her early childhood and how she was raised. She made accusations that her father abused her when she was younger but there was never any evidence found that this was true. Casey did not attest at all during the trial. The trial lasted about six weeks and on July 5, 2011 Casey Anthony was acquitted of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child. However she was found guilty of four accounts of providing false information to law enforcement officials.

When the jurors came to this decision, the nation was absolutely shocked. “The six -week trial was televised and over 1 million people watched the live verdict” (usatoday). Think of all of that publicity, all of the people watching, all of the mothers watching. This case completely showed the loopholes in our justice system. Many viewers or anyone for that matter that was following the case could possibly believe that anyone could get away with murdering their child. “As the verdict was read, Casey Anthony cried from her seat in the courtroom, breathing deeply as she looked forward. She then hugged her defense attorney Jose Baez and other members of her defense team” (CNNJustice). I can not imagine being able to look at Casey Anthony’s face without disgust when she was acquitted; justice was not served.

Right about now one would probably be reading this and wondering how it
