My Language Enviroment - Personal Essay

My language environment consists of more than one language. My parents are Arabic and moved to America to pursue a more financially stable life. Since my parents were Arabic, they would constantly intertwine Arabic and English words together to get their points across. This is not something I regret. In fact I am thankful for this because it would teach me how the context of something said could change the meaning of a word. This component of my language environment plays such a big role because it doesn't confine me to one definition of a word or phrase. In a sense, this makes me more prepared for my future plans in an academic environment as well as broader real world situations.

Books that catch my attention are not of the fiction genre. What attracts me more are books like biographies of great persons or historically correct literature. I am one who likes to see the facts and enjoys reading history and works of that sort. This comes from the fact that I am a practicing Muslim and enjoy reading books dealing with Islamic history. Reading these books gives me a sense of joy and inspires me to do better actions in this life. Since I enjoy reading Islamic books, it nurtures my mind into a more simplistic mentality because of the teachings of the Islamic faith. This sense of reading helps me function at a higher level in an academic environment because I am not one who thinks of reading as a burden, but a tool. This inclination to reading will significantly make the academic process an easier one.

There can also be the type of reading on computers. You can access the internet and browse for anything you want to read or are interested in. I am not one who likes to be on the computer for long hours because of various reasons. Mainly because it seems to easy to get to and its not the same as going to a library and getting a book. It seems like I am watering down the whole reading process when all I have to do is just click to get what I want. This
