Why would managers want to change employees’ attitudes? Comment on the approach you might take as a manager, giving reasons.

Employees attitudes is one important factor to reaching the organizations goals

According to (Hannagan 2008, p 60) a well-organised organisation should have a characteristic of “create value for their owners, customers and employees”

Employees' Emotional Connection to their workplace is important and according to Johnstone, (2002) negative emotions affect profitability, productivity, performance, and retention. Which are the most important factors for an organization. We can also see that workers with negative emotions can lead to a bad/low attitude for the organization, and managers want to change their attitudes.

There are many factors that can influence a negative attitude to employees. To understand where the employee attitudes come from, we can separate them into two groups in a social influence. According to (Buchanan and Huczynski, 2010) the first one is how groups influences on individuals attitudes. The second is how individuals influences on group attitudes and behaviour. By taking a closer look at how groups influences on individuals attitudes, we can see that it might be that group pressure appears. According to (Buchanan and Huczynski, 2010, P.373) “complying with group norms may be of such personal benefit to us that we are willing to abide by them and in so doing, suppress our own personal desires and reduce our individual freedoms. Moreover, we also punish those who violate the groups norms and reward those who do not” this is a good example of why some managers want to change their employee’s attitudes.
