The argument that I chose to review is, “Why Cats Make Better Pets than Dogs.” This argument was written by Sean Curtis. Curtis is stating that cats make a better house pets than dogs would. His position is that owning a dog changes one’s life so drastically that it is almost like having a child. Dogs need constant feeding, constant walking, and constant attention. I agree with Curtis that cats can make better pets than dogs.

Curtis basic argument can be summarized as follows:

1. Cats are lower maintenance.

2. Cats like to cuddle.

3. Cats only have to be fed once a day or once every few days.

4. Do not have to rush home to feed a cat.

5. Cats do not have to be walked.

6. Cats waste is in one place.

7. Cats are nice and quiet.

8. Cats are not rambunctious when guests stop by.

Curtis makes some very logical and thought provoking points as to why having a cat is a better choice than a dog. In the beginning Curtis compares the amount of attention a dog requires to that of a child. He also talks about having a dog before children greatly changes your life. Overall, as Curtis stated in his claim (1) cats are lower maintenance. The way Curtis starts off his explanation and claims I believe it could be rendered as scare tactics. Curtis seems to think that giving examples of not being able to take road trips, sleeping in, and no more going out right after work drinking would scare people into not getting a dog.

Second, Curtis claims (2, 7, 8) how calm and loving cats can be. Curtis talks about cats being loving while also being quiet and calm. He also says that cats will get up on the couch and cuddle with him and his wife while watching a movie. When they have houseguests or someone stops by a cats is not barking or anxious at the door. With a cat you are not getting slobbered on or jumped on the moment you walk in the door. Overall, cats tend to be calmer than dogs and not so rough.

Third, in the next claims (3, 4, 6) Curtis makes some great points regarding feeding a cat and its waste. With
