Civilization Game Essay

The Civilization Game has taught me about the numerous aspects of early civilizations. More specifically, I learned how certain conditions are almost a requirement for the emergence of early civilizations. Such as, the necessity for a river valley which was the main force in the creation of early civilizations. River valleys gave fertile land, and a water source allowing for sedentary groups to generate civilizations. I also learned that there are many more factors at work in order to maintain and have a civilization. Factors like government, shared beliefs, religion, soldiers, and trade all have their parts in early civilizations.

Today, civilizations are very different compared to those of the early days of civilization. However, they are still alike in many ways. Similarities arise from the basic foundations that all societies are rooted in. For instance, surpluses of food, government, trade, religion, hierarchies, and art are just as important now as they were thousands of years ago. On the contrary, the differences between then and now lie in the complex, advance, scope of the modern-day society compared to early societies. Today, our technology is godlike compared to the primitive technology of the early humanities. Also, our population is astronomical when likened to early civilizations. The passing of time, with the fall and rise of countless nations has lead to over thousands of years the civilization that we know today. Our advance government, infrastructure, beliefs, diplomacy, economy, culture, and way of living is thanks to previous generation after generation laying down their foundation which has elevated us to where we are now.
