In the story Adam and Eve from The Garden of Eden, connections can be made to a boy named Equality 7-2521. They both discuss and display the ways of “sinning” even though they happen in different ways. By comparing Adam and the different societies, we can see how Adam and eve are comparable to Equality 7-2521.

In Anthem, Equality 7-2521 thought to have ways to improve the environment and community and he wants to show that he can. This is the very first difference between Equality 7-2521 and Adam. Adam took the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil despite what god had said. This seems very selfish and that him and Eve only thought about themselves rather than anything else.

Equality 7-2521 feels that everyone needs to know about his invention because it may help them in many ways. To get his invention known to the public, he puts himself at great risk. This ends up going tragically wrong on his part. He is forced to leave his town and he did not truthfully deserve to be exiled. We may understand Adam and Eves expulsion because they disobeyed the words of God. In that they were being selfish to where Equality 7-2521 was being selfless in order to improve the well being of his community.

The two settings may also of affected how the actions of the two characters in the stories. In Adam and Eve they were surrounded by many trees with fruit on them, but ate from the forbidden due to being tricked by the serpent. They had no one but each other to base their human actions off of. There for they ended up seeing nothing wrong in believing the serpent. Now with Equality 7-2521, he lived in a community that was actually inhabited by many other humans. There for he is able to base actions off other human beings. However his society was very secretive and they withheld information from the workers of the society.
