  1. Prepare a Gantt Chart for the Topline Arena construction project. (5 pts)

By using Ms Project we can conduct the project Gantt chart:

  1. Did Lotus Construction prepare a good project plan for bidding the Topline Arena project with a promised completion date? Why or why not? (2.5 pts).

Lotus Construction did prepare a good project plan in term of time, they completed the project on time. According to the Gantt chart conduct above, the construction completed on 30 Dec 2010, before due date, 15 Feb 2011 and also that plan did not take any extra cost. But this plan contains many risks.

  1. How many options could Lotus Construction consider to catch up with the project progress? What factors do you suggest the company to consider to decide on a solution proposal? (2.5 points).

Lotus have 5 proposals as shown in the case study:

  1. Accelerate the pouring of the seat gallery supports. Finish at 18/11/2010 and add 130000 to cost.
  2. Proposal 1 + double shift of the foundations for the arena floor. Finish at 30/12/2010 add 195000 to cost
  3. 3 shift + Some overtime. Finish at 30/12/2010 and add 266000 to the cost
  4. Do nothing until 1 December. Finish 28/01/2011, add 207000 to the cost
  5. Take no action. Process as the original plan. Finish 30/12/2010 + no extra cost.

There are other basis besides expected costs such as public expectations and company reputation. Other factors might be considered such as, labor, contract, resource and political problems. I recommended the first proposal in order to cope with the water main repair and deal with the effects of the predicted cold water.
