SPECIAL TOPICS IN BUSINESS ETHICS

(INDIVIDUAL ORAL PRESENTATION)

BADM 4341

       You will facilitate a 7-10 minute discussion addressing an ethical issue in a business environment or broader society environment. You should provide detailed information regarding this issue and pose 4 questions to the class that will create a meaningful discussion. I will expect the entire class to become involved in the discussions that will take place---not only to contribute to the discussion, but to show support of your fellow classmate who is presenting that day. You should use visuals for this discussion. It is imperative that you are present on the day of your pre-scheduled presentation. Given the number of students in the course--this date is non-negotiable. I expect all students be in attendance during the presentations in support of your classmates. Every presentation missed is a two letter grade reduction on your individual grade. See the attached grading rubric for further clarification on the graded elements of this assignment

  1. Introduced and presented a discussion addressing an ethical issue in the business environment or an ethical issue that is currently affecting the broader society. (EX: “False Twitter Reports During Hurricane Raise Ethical Questions” was recently featured in the WSJ).  

  1. Included a brief discussion on why this topic was chosen.

  1. Provided 4 discussion questions to engage the class in discussion.  Used supplemental sources to illustrate. EX: Playing a video clip, using a case study, etc.  would help to highlight your discussion.
  2. Concluded the discussion by giving personal insight and offering an ethical framework that applies to this issue (Ethics of rights, ethics of justice, ethics of care, etc.). Explanation of the framework included at least 2 principles that defines or explains the basic premise of the framework (you will find these principles in the lecture slides).

Clearly introduced the topic and provided a comment on why this topic was chosen. Gave a definitive conclusion, giving the audience an opportunity to ask questions or seek clarification.

Spoke clearly and used correct grammar. Showed clear evidence of having researched the topic.  

Demonstrated knowledge of the topic by responding and giving appropriate feedback.

Powerpoint presentation. Included an introductory slide with name and title of presentation. Content slides were relevant and contained no  grammatical errors or misspellings. Included a slide with appropriate references in APA format.

Copy of presentation uploaded to LMS prior to day of presentation.
