GOAL SETTING: Online Work

Harvard Business School has the cream of intelligent students in its campus. This is because of their typical admission acceptance process. But only some of those students make up to job with salary of eight or nine-digit figure. In 1989, Mark McCormack unveiled a study on Harvard students in his book What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School. The study found that 3% of graduates were earning ten times more than the remaining 97% students combined (Stern, 2015). Although the study and school were same for all of them, but those 3% students knew their endpoints and written their goals.

Having clear goal setting is important as it creates awareness among us. Known goals functions as providing guidance and direction, facilitate planning, motivate and inspire individuals (ProProfs, 2016). In job search also one should have clear goal which helps as ladder to climb closer to the desired result. SMART and effective goal setting helps to stay on track and keep motivated (Karrera, 2016).

Moreover, to be in 3% category, one should have to think differently to be on top. One should not just get bounded by the classroom studies, in fact we have to examine ourselves. We have to measure our capabilities, self-image, self-efficacy and control our environment. We have to become self-expert by knowing our unique strengths, values and experiences. Also, doing the impossible things makes you extra-ordinary. Furthermore, one’s environment matters a lot. One should try to surround itself by passionate or same goal-oriented people. The above mentioned factors which are – becoming self-expert, doing the impossible and remaining in a good environment helps in attaining the goal with high efficiency.
