1. What are the major skills Jovita Carranza has demonstrated in her career at UPS that have

made her a successful leader?

The major skills Jovita Carranza has demonstrated in her career at UPS that have made her a successful leader is that Carranza’s’ corporate achievements, determination, drive, innovation, and leadership in business have earned her the distinction of being named Hispanic Business Magazines Woman of the Year (Hughes, 2009 pg.80). What the article states along with my belief that Carranza developed teamwork and commitment in employees who work at UPS. Carranza encouraged not only the employees but the company to look at all aspects of company and employee needs. She accelerated the organizational values diversity, encourages quality, loyalty, and social responsibility, among other values throughout. This is what made become a successful leader. Carranza knew what to look for to make a successful organization. She wanted to develop teamwork and interactions. Being employed for over 30 years helped contribute to the success of Carranza, becoming a leader, she didn’t start out like this but her dedication came through. She made her commitment to UPS as they were committed to their employees. The relationship between UPS and Carranza provided the opportunity for her to succeed and allow her employees to create careers within the company.

2. Consider the spiral experience that Jovita has traveled. How has her experience affected her

ability as a leader?

Carranza started from the bottom at UPS and has worked and earned her way up through the company. She can understand and empathize with the workers in every position throughout UPS because she has worked them at some point. Carranza has worked in so many different departments
