Assignment 1

UP765562

British American Tobacco PLC (BATS LN)

Revenue

Revenue, Adj

15,399.0

15,190.0

15,260.0

13,971.0

13,104.0

Looking at the revenue figures from 2011 to 2015 we can observe a slight decrease from 2011 to 2012 but from 2013 to 2015 the revenue has gone down more significantly suggesting that the company is no longer performing as good as it did in previous years.

Earnings per share

Diluted EPS from Continuing Operations + Net Abnormal Losses (Gains) / Diluted Weighted Average Shares

        EPS, Adj        1.80        2.06        2.17        2.14        2.30        2.49        2.81

Observing again the data beginning with the year 2011 it can be seen that the shares had a low value of 1.80 making the shares affordable to a broad spectrum of investors whereas as the years went by it increased every year reaching 2.81 in 2015 , so a noteworthy  increase of 1.01.So just because the earnings per share has increased that does not automatically mean that the revenues have increased as well because this can mean that fewer people can now afford to invest in this company resulting in a possible decrease of total earnings.

Total current assets

Total current assets consist of Property, plant and equipment, accumulated depreciation, LT investments, such as total intangible assets (goodwill, deferred tax assets, prepaid pension costs, investments in affiliates).

        Total Current Assets  8,495.0        9,186.0        9,518.0        9,132.0        9,814.0

The value of the total current assets increases throughout the years every year so we can see that the company is doing well as total current assets of a company show how well the company is performing .

NET INCOME

12 Months Ending        12/31/2010        12/31/2011        12/31/2012        12/31/2013        12/31/2014        12/31/2015

         Cash from Operating Activities

         Net Income        3,095.0        3,797.0        3,904.0        3,115.0        4,290.0

The net income of a company is the company’s income minus cost of goods sold, expenses and taxes for an accounting period. Therefore, it shows what the company has earned throughout the year. So, from 2011 when it was 3,095 it increased every year until 2015 when it reached 4,290 showing an improvement of their performance over the years.
