**Have to know your AUDIENCE!

In order to successfully get your message to your RECIEVERS, you need to know….WHAT?

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!

**Types of Audiences:

An Interviewer/Interviewee A Professor A Grant owner A Co-worker/Employer

“It’s all about who you are talking to!”

Perlman Example/Analysis

• Asked to prepare speech for the chairman of GM (General Motors)

o Had to know his audience and character/position

**First he asked himself, “What would the chairman say?” “Who is he talking to?”

“What’s the appropriate style for the message?”

RELATE- Most of you in your own speeches had to ask these questions and answer them, just as we did !

Analysis:

Perlman analyzed the expressions of emotions and personality and the style proportional to the subject matter. (Does everything fit together and make sense enough to convey this message?!)

RELATE- Prepare your speech, Audience analysis…..You put into practice the way you will say your speech using various emotions and gestures that would appeal to your listeners…….

Who are you? In your speech….As the sender, to the receiver

The primary focus and aim of characterization and portrayal is: Plausibility = Credibility or Validity(Va-la-dity)
