The Madness of King George III

The movie is very detailed about King George the third. He was the king while the American Revolution and French Revolution occurred. King George III is portrayed in the history books as a tyrant. In the movie, King George III begins to become insane. There was a moment where he wakes up at 4 in the morning and goes outside with his helpers. He then urinates on a ladies pot. He started acting like this after his illness. He went around with his madness proclaiming, “I’m the king aren’t I.” King George started acting more and more mad. His son decided that it will be best to lock him up. There was a moment in the movie were they tie King George III down to a chair. Reportedly, King George suffered from porphyries which his madness. Most feared that King George III will become so mad that he might destroy his empire. Many doctors try to help King George to recover to bring him back to his mental capacity. Even with his illness King George III was still able to react to the revolution as a normal King will. King George towards the end of the movie looks to have a hold of his madness. When King George found out about America becoming a Nation, he didn’t seem as a mad as a King will. This was when King George III became healthy.

The movie costumes were similar to the art images that we have seen in class. The red coats were precise. The dialog was good that made me believe the characters in the movie. Nigal Hawthorne acting was good to play a mad King George, but at the same time anyone could have easily acted as a mad King George.
