Introduction:

The Riordan Manufacturing Inc. They are a company that manufactures plastics on the globe side. Their network system is in need of a upgrade. In this paper I will explain the network fundamental characteristics of the components, it will also cover the type of network topology that they should use if they are not using it now. They have four location, the Corporate Headquarters, China Headquarters, Albany, Ga., and Pontiac, Mi.. Their system is using two different types of networks right now. The China and Corporate Headquarter have one kind of network. Then Pontiac and Albany have another type of network. The plan is getting them all networked together.

Their Current Network fundamental characteristic and components:

The locations of Corporate Headquarters' and China's Headquarter, the main backbone of the network is at the corporate headquarter where they use a 100baseT that that runs the administration section of the company. There is 36 VOIP phone systems in Main Headquarters section. And 35 VOIP phones in the China section. This is defined as a satellite link.

The R&D function uses a MAC based environment. There is 15 employees with computers, 3 high end color printers to share and a plotter at each location. This part uses the 1000baseF and it connects to the corporate LAN by using a switch. The server as well as the NAS there include WIN server, a WIN Exchange server, UNIX server these host the corporate SAP ERP SW. The servers here are all based on the IBM server type system. IBM HS20 blade servers are used in the WIN server and the IBM p series is used in the UNIX server. All of these servers use UPS systems as a backup for power. There is two other parts in the communication environment they are the data link to the Satellite base station that uses a switch and a VOIP router that connects the two facilities with voice
