The organization we are studying is Kroll Ontrack, a technology service division of Kroll Inc. a subsidiary of Altegrity, Incorporated. Kroll Ontrack provides technology-driven services and software to help legal, corporate and government entities as well as consumers recover, search, analyze, produce and present data efficiently and cost-effectively. In addition to its award winning suite of software, Kroll Ontrack provides data recovery, data destruction, computer forensics, paper and electronic discovery and a number of other services (n.p., n.d.).

Kroll Inc. established in New York City, 1972, employs now 2,800 employees and receives approximately a billion dollars in revenues. Kroll Ontrack began as a software company in 1985 and has now grown into one of the leading global data solutions today.

 With the increased application of computers and the network systems for the storage of data and information, the industry has seen a significant increase in the demand of its services. According to Kroll Ontrack Inc. (2016b), despite the significant changes in the consolidation of server hardware, the distribution of CPU processing and the virtualization of data storage media, data losses are prevalent among organizations and are often more destructive and more difficult to deal with than in the previous times.

The companies in the data recovery industry specialize mainly in the recovery of data from damaged company systems. Data recovery refers to the process of salvaging inaccessible from corrupted or damaged secondary data storage forms of media, removable media or files when the data stored in these storage media cannot be accessed in the normal ways. The main services offered at the Kroll Ontrack Company are data recovery services for RAID technology, virtualized and flash solid-state media.

As explained in the previous section, the company offers data recovery solutions for its clients. According to Kroll Ontrack, LLC. (2016c), the company specializes in recovering lost or damaged data from the computer assets of the clients, restoring data lost during the company’s operations, secure erases of data and unwanted information from IT assets of a company, computers, smartphones, tablets, virtual machines, individual files, virtual machines, individual files, flash drives, logical drives and Solid State Drives. The company also offers eDiscovery services to manage the legal and the technical aspects of eDiscovery while at the same time reducing the costs and risks involved.

Kroll Ontrack deals with providing data recovery services to its clients. The company has clients from all over the world. The revenue of the company is primarily based on the payments received from the data recovery services to the clients. The company also provides consultation services with regard to data recovery in client organizations.

Since its establishment in 1972, the company has extended its abilities and scope to many other different countries in the world. According to Kroll Ontrack Inc. (2016a), the company has over 33 offices and 19 clean room facilities in different parts of the world.
