Introduction:

Emergent technologies always have a deep impact on existing business models. In today's world organisations must always be on the lookout for newer technological aspects to further develop their product or services. They must be able to capitalise on the developments so as to maintain their competitive advantage. Technology has a deep impact across industries and sectors. There is not a single industry where technological developments do not create an impact. If companies do not capitalise on technological advances and implement the same in their current business model, they will definitely lose their market to newer players or to their competitors who have implemented the same successfully. Hence organizations are always on their toes to find out about new and emerging technologies.

In this article we will talk about such an emerging technology which will definitely have a high level of impact on the current business model of organizations in the gaming industry. This technology is known as Cloud Gaming. The advent of this technology will have a deep impact on the business model of both game developing companies and also on gaming consoles. The impact of Cloud Gaming is discussed further.

What Is Cloud Gaming?

Cloud gaming is a type of online gaming that allows direct streaming of games onto a computer through the use of a thin client, in which the actual game is stored on the game company's server and is streamed directly to computers accessing the server through the client. This will allow users to directly access to games which are stored in the servers of the game company. Further the need to have a high definition system or gaming console is also redundant as the server is the system that is running the processing needs. The controls and button presses from the user are transmitted directly to the server, where they are recorded, and the server then sends back the game's response to the input controls. This process works swiftly, with "less than a millisecond of lag, allowing for an almost seamless gaming experience." Furthermore, a low-level internet connection will also work with the server connection, with only a "DSL connection of 1.5 mbps" needed for a standard-definition television.
