Briefly describing the benefits of the physical media type you chose.

Briefly compare and contrast the media you chose with the others covered in the chapter.

Describe why a business would choose this media. Be specific.

The media type that I picked is fiber optics. Fiber optics has been around for such a long time that few people realize that this technology has been around for well over 200 years. Know this does not mean that the fiber optics cord or connections has been around that lon, but the idea has.

There are many benefits to using fiber over Cat5. The first one that I can think of is the security of the line. Fiber optics can be tapped into, however this is not as see as it seems and if done incorrectly will break the line thus severing any communication. On the other hand CAT5 can easily be spliced and tapped into meaning that the connection and information can be stolen with ease compared to the fiber lines. Another benefit is that speed that this product can provide from multi mode to single mode fiber that are both a fast option that can get communication going for any company. CAT5 is a good medium to use for networking, but this is not as fast as the fiber lines.

The one major benefit that fiber provides any company that has the funds to buy it is the speed that it offers. In the world that we live in today everyone is looking for the next best thing and fiber provides one of the fastest speeds when it comes to networking. This is one aspect that helps corporations communicate over long distances as well. The other great aspect of fiber is the fact that it is not as susceptible to ease dropping as CAT5 so this means that it provides some security with it and this is should be important to any company.
