  1. Select one pair of companies and answer the following questions.

1-    How are the companies’ markets/market segments different?

Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc “sportsauthority.com”. Is a retail store of sports industries, they don’t only focus on one sport, Dick’s Sporting Goods focuses and provides fitness equipment, golf equipment, sports apparels, and sports footwear in all sports industries. In the other hand, Soccer.com has focused its segment on soccer only, providing clothes, and footwear for soccer enthusiasts.

2-    How are their competitive pressures different?

Although, Dick’s sporting goods has many sporting goods, they do not have enough customers shopping in their stores which makes the business take a downhill hit. Dick’s suffers a competitive pressure from many other sporting retailers that have cheaper equipment and retailers that focus on one sporting item. Soccer.com’s competitive pressure isn’t as same as Dick’s sporting goods competitive pressure. Soccer.com has an advantage because they're focused on one segment and they have enough customers because of their one of few companies that focuses on soccer in the U.S.  

3-    How are their competitive strategies different?

Dick’s Sporting Goods strategy is to be a differentiation retailer, where they focus on more than one sporting industry that will grab them, buyers. Where they have unique prices for their customers. Soccer.com uses a focus strategy where they focus on a narrow scope of an industry which is soccer only. The focus strategy has two variants which are cost focusing or differentiation focus. Soccer.com focuses on cost focus where they offer good prices for their customers on their items.  

4-    How is the ‘feel’ of the content of their websites different?

The content on Dick’s Sporting Goods website is easy organized for the customer where the items that are on sale are on the front page and easily accessed by the customer and it’s a strategy to grab the customers eyes to the item fast. On the other hand, Soccer.com’s website is more random on what they keep on there the first page which make the customer feel disturbed by everything thrown on at once.

5-    How is the ‘feel’ of the user interface of their websites different?
