Personal Dilemmas

People make difficult decisions that may have overwhelming effect on their personal and/or professional lives as well as the lives of others. The decision people make provide a foundation on their personal. When these values are in disagreement, an ethical dilemma occurs.

My paper will attempt to explain how personal values play significant parts in decision-making. In addition, the foundation of ethical dilemmas can often be traced to conflicting values. This paper will also briefly discuss how personal dilemmas can be mitigated. Values and ethics are the right and wrong way of behaving, in the eyes of the in beholder. Individuals develop values based on lessons taught and reactions to situations. Societies as a whole create what qualifies as normal or acceptable behavior. Personal values influence decisions and may cause ethical dilemmas that need to be resolved.

Personal values are those beliefs unique to individuals. Beliefs are not necessarily unique to the individuals, but how they prioritize or organize their values is. Most my personal beliefs center on what I view are human rights. I personally feel that compromising an individual's rights for the "greater good" of others is never appropriate, unless their choice is to give it up.

I faced a dilemma at work last year in the mid month of March. I wouldn't really say it was personal dilemma to me but I made it a personal dilemma and I felt myself getting more and more involved in it because I could not see back and watch a friend/co-worker ruin her career. Also, I felt sympathy and empathy for one of the persons involved in the situation and I really wanted to do something. This was a very unusual dilemma and I think that I could have very well ignored getting involved in this situation, but the human mind is such that it doesn't let you forget certain things.

I was the bathroom when my immediate supervisor came while I was washing my hands. As I was preparing to walk out the bathroom she received a call, it was Bret one of the head owners of our company. Naturally you're nosy, so I waited to hear the conversation she agreed to meet at the hotel in a couple of minutes, she finished the call by saying I love you too. I hurried up and left out of the bathroom so she wouldn't see me. I stood on with some of the other employees as she came out of the bathroom and said
