Ethics in the Workplace

Question 1: What is your definition of the word “ethics”?

“Ethics is a set of moral principles that we as a society say is the right thing to do. Unlike morals, the context of ethics is constructed by each other’s definition of the word. Our moral foundation may be violated if society’s definition of ethics doesn’t align with our own. It is important employees recognize the difference before our morals are overlooked.”

Question 2: Describe three work ethics that you have.

“It is hard for me to list three words that describe my work ethics, however, there are three practices that I follow to manage my own ethical compass.

The first practice I follow is listening. Good listening skills help you to determine if you have all of the information you need when a conflict or situation becomes apparent. Sometimes we need to ask for further information to disclose missing information before becoming involved.

We all make mistakes. No matter the situation, being honest and telling the truth is key to being ethical. If you believe you did something wrong or took the wrong approach, you have to admit to it and knowledge the harm you created. Undoubtedly, you have to take responsibility for your mistake(s) and approach management to develop a positive solution to the matter.

The third and final practice is being a role model to my peers and guiding them in the right direction. We (role models) lead by example and demonstrate good ethical behavior in the workplace. We also aren’t afraid to address questionable approaches or outcomes. AS leaders in an organization, we have o acknowledge we do not know everything and need to consult someone who might know an ethical approach to the conflict. Most of the time you will receive a positive result or a step in the right direction.

These practices help me be a better role model for my colleagues and help me be a better professional in the human resources field. They also make our company run more effectively and efficiently. “

Question 3: What do you consider to be your most valuable work ethic, and why?

“There are two values I consider equally important, self-responsibility and dedication. Self-responsibility is a core work ethic in our employees and drives our company culture. It is beneficial to FH as well as my colleagues and myself.

Employees who show dedication to their company are valuable to its success. Being a team player shows beyond doubt you belong to the team. Your devotion to hiring and developing ethical employees who are good cultural fit are important too.

These individuals become leaders in our organization and mentor/coach their colleagues for success. They step up in difficult situations and address them in appropriate ways. These leaders are the structure of the organization and drive new business to grow our competitive advantage in the industry.”
