Abstract:

Millions of engineers graduate in India each year from various engineering Institutes. Most of them get employed within three months of graduation. These engineers play vital role in the economic development of a country. In today’s swift business environment, expectations of graduates in first job are different than they used to be. These graduates are expecting more exposure, responsibility and appreciation in early years of career. This research paper highlights these aspirations and identifies unique issues of job satisfaction arising out of these aspirations. Also, in order to thrive in global competition, it is important for organisations to increase employee satisfaction in the organisation; more so of young employees whom organisations hire in view of leadership succession. Hence this research was mainly undertaken to identify factors which warrant immediate attention of organisation to improve job satisfaction of graduates. The overall job satisfaction of graduates is at the positive level. This study focuses on the four issues which surfaced in survey as points of concerns - Job responsibility, Mentorship, Training and Appraisal. This paper presents a probable solution to address these concerns of graduates.

Objective of study:

• To identify the job factors which cause job dissatisfaction of graduates in first job.

• To propose probable solutions to improve job satisfaction of graduates in first job.

Scope of study:

• This study is helpful to the organization for identifying the areas of job dissatisfaction in graduate in first job.

• This study is helpful for organisations to carry out further research in this area.
