Tox Town Port

Tox Town Port

Ports play an instrumental part of human development and existence. All ports provide an area where fresh and needed resources are delivered and shipped. This high amount of ship traffic through ports leads to polluted waters. The port at Tox Town is no different with this problem. The active Tox Town Port provides many different issues that contribute to a pollution problem in the area. These issues include pollution from marinas and boats, cruise ship pollution, and runoff.

Pollution and Effects

Tox Town Port is a thriving multiple use port that provides Tox Town many different avenues of enjoyment and necessity. The marina provides the residents of Tox Town an area to store and keep their boats protected. This is also an area that will contribute to the pollution to the water in the port. Potential pollutants from marinas and boats can be caused by refueling, bat maintenance, and cleaning of the boats. There are many chemicals used in maintaining boats to working condition. Gas, diesel, antifreeze, detergent, arsenic, and chromium are a few of the chemicals that will enter the water through human intervention. These chemicals will have a negative impact on the port ecosystem and increase pollution in the water. Another issue that is caused from marinas and boats are fish waste dumped after fishing. This waste decomposes and robs the water of oxygen which harms marine life.

Cruise ships are a recreational activity that brings income into Tox Town. It is also an avenue for the people of Tox Town to quickly get away and enjoy a vacation. An environmental concern about cruise ships is something that has been growing for some time. This issue pollutes the port water with wastewater and garbage generated by the ships. The wastewater or sewage can pollute the marine environment and harm marine life. This pollution would make the water unfishable.

Runoff is another pollution potential that can affect a marine life. Tox Town Port has an issue with runoff entering the port waters. The pollution in urban and industrial runoff can destroy marine habitat. With this pollution entering the water it lowers the oxygen level. This allows algae to grow or bloom. Algae blooms can block the sunlight that other marine organisms need. Extremely large algae blooms can deplete the oxygen in the bottom
