The main purpose of power system is to generate, transmit and distribute electrical supply to customers. In distribution network, there are 33kV, 22kV, and 11kV of voltage level .In developed countries such as Malaysia, the power losses should not more than 10%. As consumers keep increasing day by day, the demand of electric energy also increasing and as a result, the distribution lines are heavily loaded. Hence, it is crucial to improve the reliability and efficiency of the system network. The reliable of power supply is needed in order to minimize power interruption and able to minimize the losses based on the peak load demand. Since, the electricity prices in the markets are related to the network losses, the power utilities in electric fields are interested to reduce the losses and improve the system reliability.Reconfiguration of network is implemented by two switches which are tie switches that normally opened and sectionalizing switches that normally closed. Most of distribution system is designed in radial operation or sometime in an interconnected or meshed network. For the meshed network, it consists of tie switches and sectionalizing switches that play as main role to perform configuration system network. There are a few reasons why reconfiguration is needed in distribution network. The reasons are to improve the voltages stability or profiles in the feeders, to increase network reliability, minimizing power losses due to peak load conditioning, to reduce thermal feeder overload, reducing abnormal voltage and also to reduce cost installation of capacitor, tap changer on transformer and the related switching equipment. . In order to give the best performance of radial distribution structure and enhance the network efficiency, reconfiguration of distribution network is needed.
