Intake Assesment Paper

An intervention is the process of intervening with a level of involvement and mediation between a client and circumstances they are facing. Characteristics of stress induced crises are feelings of loss of control in their lives, and the loss of social or emotional support (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011). The case of Brittany will be used to demonstrate ways to identify these signs in clients, a possible intervention strategy and how it would be useful.

Intervention Method

Limited Social Interventions is a strategy used to make changes in the personal environments of those in need; that can have positive effects on their ability to adjust to life. There are four steps in this method, the first is to identify the negative environment. Followed by identifying what, if any, environmental factors can be changed. The third step of this intervention strategy allows practitioners to identify how to change a negative into a positive. Once all these steps have been completed the final step of implementing the changes can begin (Mehr & Kanwischer, 2011).

Case Summary

Brittany is a 21-year-old orphan who bounced around in the foster care system nearly all of her life. She is currently going through some challenging times while trying to maintain her independence, as she is proud to now rent a two-bedroom townhouse with her unemployed boyfriend. Although Brittany cares about him, she is becoming overwhelmed, stressed, and frustrated with his lack of support emotionally and financially. His days are spent drinking and playing games with his friends while she works full time at the gentleman’s club. The frustration and stress may have gotten the best of her lately, resulting in an incident at the gentleman’s club. She was arrested and fined $400 for inappropriate behavior; which has caused more financial stress for her.

Like most people, Brittany is determined to solve her problems on her own, however, it seems that she is becoming more stressed, putting her at risk for a crisis.
