Describe two benefits of supervision during your counselor training.

During training as a counselor competence can be increased by supervision (Kahn, 2009). The ability to have someone with more experience to assist a trainee in their counseling increases the competence of the trainee. The trainee can ask questions while receiving comments and possibly countertransference on how to work through the potential issues that may emerge in the profession (Kahn, 2009).

The second benefit is that the trainee will have the ability to understand the dynamics of counseling and potentially possess the capability to make their own counseling more effective through supervision. Experienced minds who supervise trainees can assist the trainee in deciphering complex problems and issues that they will encounter with clients (Kahn, 2009).

Describe two benefits of continuing supervision after your formal training is complete.

Continuing supervision after formal training is completed is the best way to deepen a counselor's knowledge about the therapeutic process entailed within counseling. In addition two minds are always better than one when counselors are presented with a problem that he or she has not fully resolved personally (countertransference) (Kahn, 2009).

The second benefit of continuing supervision is that counselors can collaborate and bring forth ideas on client issues to better serve their client. Having two minds digest the details of your problem provides insights that may have been missed without that collaboration.
