Effects of Terrorism in Africa

Terrorismis the intentional use of violence by a group or individuals with the aim of gaining personal goals through ways that threaten a population, further than that of an immediate target (Rotberg, 2005). The activities of the terrorist group follow a particular pattern: airplane hijacking, kidnapping, threats, bombing, and assassinations. The result of this acts lead to the spread of fear throughout Africa, adverse economic effects, an infringement of human rights, destruction of infrastructure and significant number causalities (Rotberg, 2005).

The terrorist time and again has shown to target the most significant economic interests of Africa (Davis, 2010). The outcome encompasses cutting the flow of income in the target nations and Africa as a whole. Also, the results of terrorism lead to cutting down on foreign investment. Both of these effects bring down and deteriorate the support base of the government economy. A vast number of terrorist targets are places such as the hospitals and tourism sectors that in return render African nations a huge economic blow through big losses that trickle down and affect other industries. For example, the organizations concerned with insurance incur enormous losses through immense insurance claims (Davis, 2010).

The terrorism act has potentially affected negatively on the human rights and freedom of African people. For example, the security of thepopulation in Africa has been hampered. Also, other people have been forced to worship in religions against their will, and individuals have limited freedom of expression(Solomon & Palgrave Connect, 2015).

Terrorism acts such as bombing have left many infrastructure ruins in Africa as well as a large number of injured and dead people.

In summary, African countries have continued to experience a high level of terrorism that affects the continent’s economic growth, infrastructure, and its population. Terrorism as a manifestation of violence in African can be regarded as historically persistent phenomena.
