Allegory of the Cave Comparison
The multimedia that I choose was the movie Colombiana. The character I believe to be the prisoner is Cataleya. When she was younger she witnessed the murder of her parents and was told to go to her Uncle to be raised. She there was hired by her uncle to be a hit man that is when she first stepped into “The Cave”. Just as in Allegory of the Cave they start of young and look at the wall and all they see are shadows. They have no knowledge of any other way of living. The prison she lived in showed her how to converse, go to school but continue to learn how to kill like it was an everyday thing that happened to every person but to her it was a normal action.
The shadows in the Allegory of the Cave were of the people outside the prison who walked along the raised walkway. The “shadows” that Cataleya sees are the people who most of us would consider or average day person. By this time she had begun her killing and that’s all she knew was a being a hit man. Also in the cave the prisoners didn’t know what they saw were shadows. Just as Cataleya had known knowledge that the people she was around on a daily basis besides the ones she was after were shadows. She knew they were there vat had known knowledge that there was another way of living or to be brief that they even truly existed because most times she paid them no attention.
As in the cave the prisoners were not able to see the puppets or the puppet masters they could only see the shadow. For example say the puppet master holds down a bird and one of the prisoners say “look a bird” they’d be wrong for only they could see the shadow of what they believe it is. The puppet master controlling Cataleya is Don Lewis the man who killed he father he is putting shadows in front of her and making her believe that she is catching up with him but in reality he has already got her.
The enlightened releaser is she. She soon realizes that her life as she knows it is crashing down before her. The ones who raised her after (her grandma and uncle) her parents got killed were murdered by the same people who killed he parents.
