John Q Movie Plot Case Study

I've watched a lot of movies that caught my attention. The movie that really caught my attention is John Q, a movie that has a lot of drama, suspense, and is very emotional. The actor who plays John Q., Denzel Washington, always plays a great part attracted me to watch the movie. The movie really stands out because it has a great plot, illustrates the injustices of society, and how the health care system works.

The plot of John Q. starts with a Canadian family struggling to make ends meet. It is a father, mother, and a little boy about eight. The little boy was playing baseball one day and passed out from heat exhaustion, so his parents rushed him to the hospital. The parents found out the child needed a heart transplant immediately; if not, then the boy would die. This was frightening to the parents so they start putting there heads together. The father's insurance company lacks the benefits to even get the boy's name on the donor's list. So the parents start gathering the funds to help get their son's name on the list. They sold their car, house, and most of their belongings and even had help from two of their friends. Time was running out so the father took matters into his own hands. He holds the doctor hostage along with innocent bystanders. The cops surround the hospital and try to negotiate with the father to let the hostages go and they'll help get the boy a heart. The father didn't want to believe them so he comes up with the idea that he would donate his own heart to his son. The hostages couldn't believe what he wanted to do especially the doctor. The doctor didn't want to do the surgery, but the father held the gun to the doctor's head and convinced him to do it. All this time the mother is at home not knowing what her husband is doing at the hospital. The mother told her husband to do whatever it took to get their son a heart. The cops call his wife thinking she could talk him out of keeping the people hostage. The wife tries to convince him, but all he wanted to do is get his son a heart. The father said all his goodbyes and went into another room with the gun and was going to kill himself and about the time he was going to pull the trigger his wife told the doctor that a heart just came through. The doctor rushed in on him and told him just in time, so his son got a heart transplant and lived to enjoy life. The movie was really emotional and I would say it was one of the best movies I've
