Residential Care Home Assessment

Analysis of the external environment for a residential care home in Brampton, Ontario.

Social

Brampton is the suburban city in the Greater Toronto Area(GTA). Current population of Brampton is over 600,000 approximately where average household income before taxes are $93,817 and there is a balanced mix of young and baby boomers. There are some care homes located in the nearby areas but the seniors who immigrated to Brampton first, do not want to move out of the town. As the population and housing are increasing by a good speed, Brampton is the right place to open the residential care home as seniors will soon need the care homes in the future years.

Economic

Brampton is the ninth largest city in Canada and fourth largest city in Ontario and third largest city in the Great Toronto Area. According to IRPP Study, Canada will need 320,000 beds for Residential care home until 2041 but it has only 200,000 beds right now. Also, high rising Housing rates in Brampton makes seniors to sell their houses and fund their retirements. With strong-performing sectors including Life sciences, Food & beverage, Advanced Manufacturing, retail administration and Logistics information communication technology and business services Brampton is home to a diversity of world class industry.

Most of the seniors in Brampton are on Pension income or old age security, so the affordability could be a factor to consider in the care home assessment.

Technological

Brampton’s William Osler Hospital in the central area is Ontario’s largest community hospital who provides round-the clock health care to more than 1.3 million people who live in Brampton. This is a positive factor as care homes will have access to. In addition, better customer service, equipments needed, online websites for the seniors should be able to fulfill the all technological needs. Seniors are tech savvy in this generation, so they can also use social media to reach out to everyone.
